Chickpeas are grown in Western Canada. Two types of chickpeas are produced. The Kabuli type chickpea has a white (zero tannin) seed coat with large, round, cream to white colour cotyledons. The desi chickpea is smaller in size and has a thicker seed coat that varies in colour from green to purple, brown, tan or black. Desi chickpea cotyledons are pale yellow in colour.
